My husband was born and raised in Fort McMurray, and, while his parents have retired south, several friends still live in the community, including our kids’ godfather. We don’t head up north often, but love the area when we do (the drive is long). There are so many things to do!
A hotel room in Fort Mac is a pretty reasonable price – especially on weekends when not as many people are working – so we treat the kids and stay in one instead of cramming them into a friend’s basement. One of our favourites is the Radisson Hotel and Suites Fort McMurray with their awesome orange waterslide!
Alberta isn’t really known for it’s outdoor pools. Our season is pretty short for them. Which makes Alberta campgrounds with a pool that much more special to find. We’ve scoured the internet and camping forums to create this list for you. In alphabetical order (because why not?), here are all the non-seasonal campground pools we know of!
Rates were current in June, 2023. We try to update this annually – if you find anything inaccurate please let us know!
Hands up if you base your hotel booking on how awesome the pools are? With 3 kids it’s definitely one of the top must-haves on our list. A standard two-loop waterslide isn’t enough to make it on this list – these pools all have more than your typical Best Western “cool” pool. Whether you’re still looking for a getaway during the summer or a fun “stay”-cation here is a list of hotels with awesome pools across Alberta!

The long awaited Borden Pool is set to open today in Edmonton! There have been a few setbacks, but it’s kind of understandable because this is the first of its kind in Canada. The pool water is treated in a completely natural way! There’s no chemicals added to the water, making it a really unique outdoor pool experience.
We checked it out this past Friday and it was impressive for a number of reasons:

One of the most amazing things you can experience with your family is discovering your own neighbourhood and building a sense of community.
My family and I moved to Leduc last year and one of my goals was to really explore this new city and build connections. I wanted the transition to a new home to be a positive encounter for my children and an opportunity for them to engage in their surroundings and think about what makes our new city a good place to live.
Over the last year, we have discovered many hidden gems in our city, and do truly believe Leduc is a great place to live. We are also a great road trip destination for families!
We are 15 minutes away from Edmonton and you can encounter a community where the pace is slower, the adventures are enriching and the people are welcoming!
Here are some of our favourite things to do in Leduc with the kids.
